Mothers Development for month 8 of pregnancy
You may be gaining a lot of weight (about 1lb per week), but it does not mean that the baby will be huge. the weight is distributed in a number of ways, it doesn't all go on the baby.
You can probably tell the baby's knee or elbow when it prods you.
You may experience leg cramps especially when asleep.
Your body is preparing for the delivery, you may notice more Braxton Hichs contractions.
Many women become anxious about giving birth, if you have any worries discuss them with your GP, midwife or gynaecologist.
Your weight gain may slow down now, but your baby will continue to gain about half a pound each week
If you notice that your baby has ?dropped? (appears to be lower in your abdomen), you can expect to have about two to four weeks to go before delivery.
You will probably visit your gynaecologist more often from now on (usually every week).
Look out for some of the signs of labour -
Bloody show
Contractions
Dilation (opening of the cervix)
Waters breaking
Baby Dropping
Most babies will be in a head down position at this stage, but about 4% of babies will be breech (feet down). There are things which can be done to turn your baby, your doctor will discuss these with you.
If your baby has dropped into your pelvis, you may be able to breathe more easily, however, you may have to urinate more frequently, as it begins to put pressure on your bladder.
Things To Do in month 8
You should be prepared to leave at any moment. Have your bag packed, know how you are going to get to the hospital and have important phone numbers close to hand.
This is a good time for you to get the essentials that you will need when the baby comes.
